Krist at the beach

 

Water color is one of my favorite mediums so I wanted to practice with painting people because that is what most of my artwork is composed of. The only really problem I had was with, again, the face. I can't get the detail I want so I think I migh start working larger.

With this piece I wanted to practice painting realistically. I found that I am better at painting still life than people. I also found that I just really do not like canvas. I think if I painted portraits on a larger canvas it would be better, but it's really difficult for me to paint little faces. That is why Krist's face is off. I also drew him from my head so I also think it would be more successful if I painted from a picture.

This piece was done with colored pencils, a medium I am trying to get better at. I wanted the background to be made up of flowers that flow together. I had my friend Alan pose for me so I could draw him and practice on my coloring for things like skin and hair. I also did this piece to practice portraits. I think this looks very close to Alan so I belive that is successful.
