Artist Statement
For my series I wanted to do females in a fantasy or unrealistic setting. I've always been interested in drawing in primarily females. In my art I want to express beauty that elicits a subconscious reaction. We are naturally attracted to things in nature such as flowers and color schemes and that's what I wanted to show through my art. An artist who has inspired me is Amy Sol. She also draws females as well as animals, some she makes up some that are real. Se has created her own world and has developed her own color palette which I want to do as well. In my own series I wish I had used one medium and one style so the piece who have flowed together better. In the near future I plan to create my own style and many series.

Me holding Krist's dead body
For this piece I wanted to work with black paper and colored pencils. I like the effects and essentially working backwards. I wanted to go for a darker piece in meaning. This is a scene from the music video for the song "Born to Die" which you can tell by the title, is pretty dark. I wish I had changed the colors a bit more. I've realized that I never really get the color schemes that I want and that's something I'm going to work on.

A portrait of me of Krist
With this piece I wanted to practice my proportions. I still haven't gotten it down, but blocking it out just doesn't seem to work for me. I also wanted to work with graphite since I haven't in a while and I think I'm getting better at it. I think now I'll just keep practicing portraits until I have found a way that works for me even though eventually I want my own style as opposed to realistic.

Krist loves cake
This piece made me realize a lot of things. One: Painting with acrylics on paper just does not work. Two: I just really don't like painting. And with the senior ex shows going on it made me think a lot about my senior ex. I've always had a good idea on what I wanted to do and I always thought I'd want to do my series in paint, but I'm starting to rethink that. I think I'd actually want to do it in Photoshop. You can get similar effects without the messiness of real paint.

Krist is a model
This drawing started out as just a doodle I was doing while bored at the airport. I realized it was turning out really well despite the fact that I didn't block it out or use any guidlines. Also I was using pen so I couldn't erase anything. This all seemed to contribute to the piece. I realized that I much better at portraits when I just wing it so I want to do more realistic portraits using this method.

Krist at the beach
Water color is one of my favorite mediums so I wanted to practice with painting people because that is what most of my artwork is composed of. The only really problem I had was with, again, the face. I can't get the detail I want so I think I migh start working larger.
Krist pondering his thoughts
With this piece I wanted to practice painting realistically. I found that I am better at painting still life than people. I also found that I just really do not like canvas. I think if I painted portraits on a larger canvas it would be better, but it's really difficult for me to paint little faces. That is why Krist's face is off. I also drew him from my head so I also think it would be more successful if I painted from a picture.
